Jesus: The Temple and Fig Tree Episode.

Mathew 21: 15-19

According to the gospel of Mathew, Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem during Hosanna. The time where people were in need of a master to save and rescue them from all their bandages and sins. The only hope was on Jesus the Prince of Peace who was considered to fulfill prophesies of the prophets. But 2 reactions of Jesus after this event occurred that brought about a change in the attitude of the people regarding Jesus.
     1) Jesus Cleanses the Temple:
From people who tried making it a market place, in today’s context more of a business center, where He was really hurt to see the house of the Lord in a mess, no importance for worship but for worldly and materialistic pleasures.

     2) Jesus Cursing the Fig Tree:
When Jesus returns the very next day, he is hungry and all that could be seen nearby was a Fig tree. A great relief that could have been a solution to his hungry but situations were more challenging as the tree didn’t possess any fruit. Which leads to Jesus cursing it.

What is our learning in this two instances, we as the choses people will often face situations which was testing we need to stand our grounds to do our best. As chosen people we need to know our space roles and utilize it to the maximum: the church, the workplace, home etc. Realizing the space and its role in practicality is very important.
We are expected to bear fruits that are to fulfill and be of use for others. As a tree we need to be humble (tree bend down of fruits burden) and bear fruits. In our context bearing fruits could be two things:
a)      Fruits of the Spirit
b)     Using our talents

May God help us to understand our space and to utilize it properly for his glory and bear fruits that the master needs us to produce and that may inculcate His teachings and role model through us.
